what's this volume riding thing? i've never heard of it
Well, volume riding was "the" technique to get healthiest signals on to tape. Then, with improved headroom of emerging tape machines, limiters and compressor, engineers started to get lazy. Now, in the era of DAWs, we don't really need to do anything while tracking. However, established engineers still use volume riding to transfer all the life from a performance into a mix.
I have a controller already, why should I get WAVE RIDER?
Wave Rider will work alongside your controller, handling only the faders that are assigned to it*. Giving you more freedom to do more mixing tasks on the fly.
I don't have a controller, is wave rider all i need?
Wave Rider is not going to eliminate your need of a controller. However, it will make your life much easier in achieving professional results if you don't own a controller.
I have a range of compressors and limiters, and their plugin versions. What can Wave Rider do better?
Compressors and limiters do one thing: attenuate the signal. For levels below their threshold they simply don't do anything. You need to squash your signal over the board and use make up gain to achieve an even output level. This colors the sound, and once it's there it's there forever. Wave Rider rides the faders for gain as well as attenuation so the output level stays constant without degrading the dynamics of your signal. The best part is you can alter these moves after the fact. Of course Wave Rider could be used along with your favorite dynamics processors to achieve ultimate results.

Why is Wave Rider so cheap? Is it just a gimmick?
Wave Rider is cheap but it's not a toy. It's a serious tool for Pro Tools users from bedroom warriors to seasoned professionals. The belief that a good plugin should be expensive is hopefully diminishing with great examples around.
What should I do with the hours I gain running Wave Rider?
You could try and catch some real waves in the surf! Or sit outside with a cup of coffee and enjoy the daylight you've been missing. You could call your mother in-law and catch up on lost conversation. The list goes on...
